why meditate?

why meditate?

one of the most common things I hear is “I can’t meditate, I can’t even sit still!”, “meditation is not for me!” “I have no idea how to even start”

Does this sound familiar? what if I told you there was already several times during your day you were in a meditative state?

think about any time you were caught up in the moment, whether it be surfing, being in nature, staring at the clouds or dancing around your lounge room. anytime that we are perfectly in the moment, we are meditating. anytime we have no thoughts enter our mind, we are meditating.

take a moment now, to just breathe. take a large breath in, hold for four seconds, and exhale slowly. and again hold. repeat,

and again.

see your thoughts swirling around your mind like sand disturbed from the ocean floor by wave after wave. and with every breath in and hold, and exhale, slowly see this sand settling on the ocean floor. creating stillness, creating silence. creating a lull in the turbulence of modern life. a moment of settling.

this visualisation and practice only takes a moment, you may close your eyes and visualise this happening. see the sand slowly slowly settling. coming to rest peacefully on the floor of the ocean. this is meditation.

listening to a guided meditation, frequency music, sounds of nature - all forms of meditation. sitting cross legged, laying down, walking, floating in water - all meditation. sitting with the sun on your face, sitting against a tree, in a natural environment - yep, all meditation.

we, as humans tend to overcomplicate things and deem things harder or more difficult than they truly are. when we say something is difficult or hard - it is.

when we say something is easy - it is. it is that simple.

so, for a moment imagine or say out loud to yourself now - meditation is easy. I meditate easily. I have the freedom to meditate the way I choose to each day. you see, the body and the mind do not know the difference. when we say something is easy, our body and mind respond with oh, ok. if we say something is difficult - the same thing happens. our body/mind say - oh ok. it may feel unusual or uncomfortable to say these things - or even untrue. though this is how we reprogram our minds, it is easy. it is simple.

as we start to see and tell ourselves that something is easy, something is simple, then so it is. this may not FEEL like it is the case to start with, though over time your reality reflects your inner world.

with speaking of our inner world - how does meditating affect this?

a practice of meditation begins by creating space. this is then followed with creation of freedom, of creative thought. and how it does this is by creating this space each day for stillness, for silence, for connection to self or the natural world, we start to create space within our mind. we start to see ourselves seperate from our thoughts and emotions. we start to become less and less affected by things, people, situations and conversations around us. we are able to see more clearly our own thoughts and emotions, see others thoughts and emotions. we see are are able to lean on our own inner guidance and intuition easily, as we have given space for these aspects to flourish. meditation is not only deeply healing, it is a way of creating a sense of self you shall never find out side of yourself.

truly, it is a magical practice where you can see more options for you, creative ways and new ideas, a calming of the nervous system, better flow and chi through your energy, and a greater appreciation of all the beauty and magic around you. through meditation we are then able to connect easily with our higher self, loved ones, inner guidance and wisdom - all is available to you!

find the right kind of meditation for you. change it up if you like each day - find out what works for you, and know that when it feels good, it’s the right one.
